Green Infrastructure
Green Infrastructure is defined as “an interconnected network of green space and environmental assets that preserve the functions of native ecosystems and provide associated benefits people” (adapted from The Conservation Fund, Ed McMahon and Mark Benedict)
West Michigan has an exceptional endowment of natural resources, with many open space and sustainable business initiatives in progress. As development trends accelerate, a shared, regional vision is needed to guide West Michigan’s long-term green infrastructure strategy.
Part of that vision is emerging in a map of our naturally connected green assets. The map is a work in progress.
